Partnerships Specialist

MJBiz, the award-winning B2B news brand and conference producer for the professional cannabis industry, is seeking an experienced Partnerships Specialist to manage our alliances and trades with outside associations, events, publishers, podcasters and other professional organizations. This is not a sales position. You will report directly to Marketing Director for Events and work in alliance with the editorial and events teams.

Should you desire, you may work remotely as long as you are a US resident and able to travel to our offices in Lakewood CO for twice-annual meetings and to our annual event in Las Vegas. (The company pays for out of state travel.)

You will be responsible for managing upwards of 200 partnerships, ranging from standardized barter deals to complex alliances. Your role will include four main areas:

1. Partner Research, Outreach and Inbound Management

Communicate with your colleagues in Events and Content to determine the partnerships and outcomes they are seeking, the best timing, as well as the deal terms they have to offer.

Research and identify potential partners as well as which previous partnerships are worth revisiting.

Sort through large numbers of inbound requests to determine which are worth pursuing and how they would be best handled.

Outreach and contracting for standard offers, with support from senior executives for more complex deals.

2. Partnership Execution

Serve as the main point of contact for partners throughout their relationship with our brands.

Determine and set the terms (when appropriate), educate partners as to the value and terms we offer, create written agreements, get them signed by both sides.

Ensure both sides fulfill their agreed obligations, including looping in other departments as needed. This may include gathering logos, creating (standardized) landing pages, and scheduling ads and emails, as well as personally acting as a point of contact for partners setting up at our conferences.

3. Record Keeping, measurement and strategic planning

Track the success of various arrangements and partners; maintain records of all communications, contracts and results. Loop other departments in – such as accounting and IT’s data studio – in as needed.

4. Partnership strategies and concept development

Suggest strategic changes and updates to our partnership activities in various key markets and as a whole.

Coordinate with internal shareholders, particularly in marketing, to determine how partnerships can better serve their needs.

Create annual plans in conjunction with our budgeting process.

Key Skill Sets Required:

–        Deadline and target driven, effective planner

–        Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written

–        Strong negotiating skills

–        Exceptional project management abilities

–        Self-motivated with experience meeting goals within a virtual environment

–        3+ years of experience managing partnerships or barter relationships for an event, brand or media company.

Depending on experience, the salary range for this role is $60-70k plus healthcare, flexible vacation, and 401k. You must be able to travel occasionally within the US, including annual team meetings at our HQ in Lakewood CO and to our event in Las Vegas. (Note: Business travel requires vaccination. The Company pays for all related T&E.)
